Don’t Overlook this New MOL Requirement – Health & Safety at Work Poster – Prevention Starts Here

One of the high priority recommendation from the Dean Report in 2010 was to:

create a health and safety poster that explains the key rights and responsibilities of the workplace parties, including how to obtain additional health and safety information and how to contact a Ministry of Labour inspector. It should be mandatory to post this in the workplace.

This recommendation is now a posting requirement for all Ontario workplaces.  The new poster should be posted in your workplace as soon as possible. Inspectors will be looking for this poster but will not be enforcing this requirement until October 1, 2012.

The New Awareness Poster is available for download on the www.ontario.ca website and is available in 17 different languages. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, employers must post the OHSA and any other material as decided by the Ministry of Labour.  This new poster must be posted in your workplace on 11″ x 8.5″ paper.

The poster will help to ensure all Ontario workers are aware of their rights as employees, and supervisors and employer responsibilities in regards to Health and Safety in the workplace.  The new poster also gives employees the Ministry of Labour toll free number in case they have any questions or concerns.
