5 Documents You Are Legally Required to Have Posted in Your Workplace

The Ontario government requires all workplaces to have the following documents  posted in their workplace. These legal documents are needed to ensure that workers are aware of their rights.  Are you complying?   I have attached the links to make it easy to update your workplace and remain compliant with the Ministry of Labour requirements.

  1. The Employment Standards Poster

    This document informs the worker of their  basic employment rights.  It must be printed on legal (8.5″ x 14″) size paper to be compliant.  Your workplace needs to have version 4 to comply.

  2. The Occupational Health and Safety Act

    This is the “green” book that contains safety regulations and explains employee rights and responsibilities.  It can be purchased via the Ontario website or you can print the latest version directly from their website. I would recommend purchasing a copy as it contains a lot of pages!   It is reasonably priced at $8.00 per copy.  You also need to keep track of the revision dates.  If your office has a copy from 1995, this is no longer current.  The latest version is dated July 2010.

  4. The  WSIB 1,2,3,4 poster

    It can be printed directly from the website using the link or can be ordered free of charge from the WSIB. It is important to note that the 1,2,3,4 poster is available in many different languages.  You should order the poster in the predominantly spoken language(s) at your workplace.

  5. “Prevention Starts Here” Poster

    The poster explains the key rights and responsibilities of the workplace parties, including how to obtain additional health and safety information and how to contact a Ministry of Labour inspector.  This new poster must be posted in your workplace on 11″ x 8.5″ paper. The poster is available for download on the www.ontario.ca website and is available in 17 different languages.

    1. Only if every single employee in the workplace has a point of access with which to view this information.
      However, it would be at an auditor’s discrepancy to say whether the accessibility of said computer terminal is located in a “conspicuous” enough area–which is the rule which applies to the poster versions. All said, probably best practice to post hard copy.Why tinker with legislation?
      It is also worth noting that these postings do not apply to federally requlated workplaces.
