Bill 160: October 2011 Update

Bill 160 received Royal Assent on June 1, 2011.  This bill amends both the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act by transferring prevention mandate and responsibility from the above to the newly formed Interim Prevention Council.   This new Bill has a lot of ground to cover and the first step was appointing George Gritziotis as the New Chief Prevention Officer.   Since this Bill will have far reaching implication for Ontario employees and companies, most of the original recommendations from the Dean report are still being considered and reviewed.   Some of the changes we know will occur in the Health and Safety representative training, changes to the reprisal provisions and transfer of power to the new Prevention Council.

We will continue to update you as new information becomes available.
